Parenting pressures

Today we had a meeting at nursery regarding my sonโ€™s speech. He is 28 months, babbles away, says the odd word but communicates to us brilliantly in other ways. ๐–๐ž ๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐ง๐จ๐ญ ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐.

But this got me thinking about the pressure which is put on us (and our little ones) regarding development milestones and the anxiety this can bring.

Right from the moment our babyโ€™s are born; everything starts to feel like it defines us as a parent. When things go right, we are proud. But when things donโ€™t โ€œgo to planโ€ we compare ourselves to others, think weโ€™ve done something wrong or start to question if we are good enough.

The next time these thoughts start to pop up, try to keep these four things in mind;

โ€ข Our children have their own process & timeline
โ€ข Our children are their own person; they are individuals.
โ€ข There are many unexpected twists & turns in parenthood; that is normal.
โ€ข Our childrenโ€™s feelings are not always about us. Feeling sad/angry are all normal emotions.

Although itโ€™s easier said then done; ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐œ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฅ๐ž๐ฌ ๐Ÿ’•
