Today we had a meeting at nursery regarding my son’s speech. He is 28 months, babbles away, says the odd word but communicates to us brilliantly in other ways.
But this got me thinking about the pressure which is put on us (and our little ones) regarding development milestones and the anxiety this can bring.
Right from the moment our baby’s are born; everything starts to feel like it defines us as a parent. When things go right, we are proud. But when things don’t “go to plan” we compare ourselves to others, think we’ve done something wrong or start to question if we are good enough.
The next time these thoughts start to pop up, try to keep these four things in mind;
• Our children have their own process & timeline
• Our children are their own person; they are individuals.
• There are many unexpected twists & turns in parenthood; that is normal.
• Our children’s feelings are not always about us. Feeling sad/angry are all normal emotions.
Although it’s easier said then done;
